Bryan Smith is Pennsylvania Champion!

Congratulations to Silver Knights coach IM Bryan Smith, the 2007 Pennsylvania state champion!  Bryan scored 4.5/5 points at the recently completed state championship tournament in Haverford.  He raced out to a 4-0 score before giving up a quick draw in the last round that guaranteed him clear first place.  Check back later this week to see him analyze some of his games in chess videos for the Online Training Center.

Tournament Results - Greater Pocono Scholastic Championship

20 players participated in the 1st annual Greater Pocono Scholastic Championship at Pocono Mountain East High school in Swiftwater, P.A.  The K-12 Open section was won by teammates Alex Belkin and Henry Luo of Pocono Mountain East.  Alex and Henry drew each other in round three, and finished with undefeated scores of 3.5/4.  The K-12 under 1000 section was won by Anthony Ciarlante III with a score of 3.5/4. William Thompson scored 3/4 to finish 2nd.  The team prizes were won by local schools, Pocono Mountain East for the K-12 Open and Swiftwater Intermediate for the K-12 Under 1000.

 

It was a great tournament and we look forward to a bigger and better event next September!

Tournament Results - August Burn

45 chessplayers gathered at Radnor Elementary School to battle it out in the August Burn chess tournament, the final event of the summer.

U.S. Open

Congratulations to Silver Knights chess coach Michael Mulyar, the 2007 U.S. Open co-champion! This is the second time Michael has tied for first place at the U.S. Open. Michael came back from a 6th round loss to GM Sergey Kudrin to win his final three games. Check back over the next couple of weeks to see him analyze some of his games for the Online Training Center.

Silver Knights is proud to announce the launching of our new Online Training Center! The center is a collection of chess videos from masters all over the country. Members can log on and view videos whenever they want, and a brand-new video is added every day!

On July 14 at Radnor Elementary School, 43 players took part in the July Joust chess tournament.

On June 9, 34 competitors battled it out in the final chess tournament of the 2006-2007 school year at Copper Beech Elementary School in Glenside, PA.
