62 Players competed in the 2009 November Slam K-8 chess tournament at Montessori School of McLean in McLean, Virginia. 3rd-grader Aaditya Singh went 4-0 in the Rated section to become the tournament champion, followed closely by 1st-grader Tad Mrozek with 3.5 points. Nysmith won the team prize with 7 school points.
In the 47-player Unrated section, Jenny Smiley, Timothy Nealon, and Soham Dessai tied for 1st-3rd place with perfect 4-0 scores, followed by Brandon Leggett with 3.5.Â Sanders Corner Elementary School of Ashburn won the team prize with 15 team points, followed by Virginia Run Elementary (Centreville) with 10, St. Luke School (McLean) with 9.5, Montessori School of McLean with 6, and Our Lady of Good Counsel (McLean) with 6.
