Date: Sunday May 4, 2025
Time: 10:30 AM - approximately 2:30 PM

This tournament has four different sections to accommodate players of differing ages and skills.  Children play against opponents in their section.  The first round begins at 10:30AM for all sections.  The tournament concludes around 2:30PM with an awards ceremony where the top players and schools receive trophies.

Pre-registered players should arrive around 10:10AM.  All games are non-elimination, and all players participate in all four rounds.  For players using chess clocks, the time control is G25, d/5. 

Sections: 
K-3 U-200 Section This section is for children Grades K to 3 with ratings under 200 or new, unrated players.  This is the BEGINNERS section.

K-5 U-400 SectionThis section is for children Grades K to 5 rated between 200 and 399.

K-12 U-700 SectionThis section is for children Grades K to 12 rated between 400 and 699 and/or players in Grades 6 to 12.

K-12 Championship Section This section is open for players rated 700 or higher and/or players in Grades 6 to 12. This is the most ADVANCED section of play. 

Anyone who wants a greater challenge may choose to play in a higher-rated section than the lowest for which he/she is eligible. 

United States Chess Federation (USCF) membership is required for all participants, and can be purchased along with tournament registration. Online registration is $40 before midnight Wednesday, April 30, $47 before 5:00PM Saturday, May 3.  Registration will close 5:00PM Saturday May 3.  There will be no onsite registration.

Chess sets are provided, but bring a clock if you have one.

Regarding Byes....If you anticipate that you will not be there in time, or need to leave the tournament early, please indicate which game(s) you will be missing.  Your child will NOT be paired for those games if you indicate you want a Bye.  The player receives a half-point for the skipped game, and will be paired as usual for the other rounds. Children can take a maximum of two half-point Byes in a four round tournament.  Additional Byes will be zero points.  Byes must be scheduled before the tournament begins.

Pre-registered players should arrive around 10:40am.  All games are non-elimination, and all players participate in all four rounds. For players using chess clocks, the time control is G/25, d5.

Sections:

K-3 U-200 Section (Beginner Section)    This section is for Grades K to 3 for children with ratings under 200 or new unrated players.

K-6 U-500 Section     This section is for Grades K to 6 for players rated 200 to 499.

K-12 U-800 Section   This section is for Grades K to 12 for players rated 500 to 799 and/or lower-rated players in Grades 7 to 12.

K-12 Championship Section (Most Advanced Section)  This section is open for players rated 800 or higher and/or players in Grades 7 to 12.  It is also open to lower-rated players that want more of a challenge.
